You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Write a letter to the bank. Explain what has happened and say what you would like them to do about it.
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write your own address.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir,
Model Answer 1:
Dear Sir,
I am writing in response to a letter from your bank dated 16th June 2021 regarding an overdrawn amount of $240 from my account. The information provided in the letter is inaccurate as I have sufficient funds in my account and $70 as an overdrawn fee is hence irrelevant.
I am Stephen Dorn and I maintain an account with your bank for the last 4 years. My account number is 045871210 which has an available balance of $4800 to date. The letter I received stated that I withdrew $5040 on 25th May from an ATM machine but the account number provided in the transaction details is not mine. This must have been a mistake from your end.
I enclose the transaction record of my account so that you can immediately notice the error. Since I have not exhausted my account balance and did not overdraw, the $70 charge is not applicable to me.
I would request you to counter-check the information and reply to me at your earliest. Please advise your bank personnel to double-check the transaction records before dispatching any official letters to customers.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Dorn
Sample Answer 2:
Dear Sir,
I am a loyal customer of your bank and have had a bank account with you for the last ten years. Today, I am writing in reply to a letter I received from you a few days ago. In your letter, you state that I am $240 overdrawn and that you will be charging me $70.
I would like to point out that the reason why I am overdrawn is because of a mistake made by your bank. If you look through my account record, you will see that I wrote several weeks ago explaining the situation.
For the last twelve months, I have been paying $300 a month for a car I bought last summer. The monthly payments were taken directly from my bank account. However, two months ago I sold the car, and I wrote to you instructing you to stop paying the monthly instalments. I received a letter from you acknowledging my request, but, for some reason, nothing was done about it. Another $300 instalment has been paid this month, and this is the reason why I am overdrawn.
I would like you to contact the car showroom from where I bought the car to explain your error. I would also like you to ask them to return the money.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Morris
