Model Answer 1:
Dear Mr Ivan,
I am a first-year student at Saint Petersburg College and have recently borrowed three books from the college library. Unfortunately, my grandma had been admitted to the hospital and I will rush to see her this evening. Since the college will remain closed till next Monday, I am afraid I will not be able to return the books in time.
My library card number is SP4587-DS and my college ID number is M020518. Last Tuesday, I borrowed Integrated Calculus, Introduction to Statistics and This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald and I am due to return them before 26th August. However, my grandmother’s sudden sickness forces me to travel to my hometown immediately. Since I do not know how severe her condition is, I cannot plan for a return date.
Hopefully, I will be able to attend my classes soon and I will return the books as soon as I get back.
Considering the situation, I would request you not to impose any late charge on me and accept my delay in returning the books.
Yours faithfully,
Petrov Morozov
Sample Answer 2:
Dear Mr Alfred,
I am writing in regards to the books I borrowed last week from the school library, which I may not be able to return in time due to some unavoidable circumstances. I am supposed to return them on 15th September and the details of these books can be traced by my library ID card which is AF1-00254.
I rushed to Hampshire, my hometown, last night after I received the news of my elder sister’s illness. Her condition is better now but the doctor has kept her under observation. I will have to be by her side until her condition gets stable.
Considering the situation, I would like to request you to extend my book-lending duration for another week. Could you please change the due date to 22nd September? That way I can return the books without receiving a late fine.
Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.
Yours faithfully,
Veronica Alice
