GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 144
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You recently rented a car for a business trip. When you received the bill from the rental company, some charges did not seem correct to you.
Write a letter to the rental company. In your letter:
- provide the dates of your rental contract and the purpose of your trip
- describe your confusion with the bill
- say what you would like the rental company to do about it
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Model Answer:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I rented a car from your company for a whole week, from March, 07 to March, 13, for the purpose of meeting some high-end clients of our real estate company. It is also worth mentioning that I have rented your car before on a number of occasions, but, thankfully, I never had to deal with an issue like this in the past, especially, with the rental charges.
In fact, the car rental bill shows that I need to pay an extra amount of money because I took the car outside of my home town for more than 3 days. Now, I am not sure what really had happened with the person who prepared the bill for me, but the contract paper, which I signed during the delivery of your car, clearly mentioned that I was going to take the car outside of my home town for a whole week, and as such, there is no question of any extra charges.
Therefore, I would like to request you to take a look at the contract paper once again and send me another bill with the right charges and amount in it.
Thank you in advance.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Harper
