Model Answer:
Some people believe that commanding a high salary is more vital than job contentment. This essay entirely agrees with that statement because the writer believes that a higher wage improves the quality of life and brings social status – both of which are important for having a stress-free happy life.
A well-paid job helps a person lead an exultant life. In simple words, when an individual earns a high salary, it guarantees a higher standard of life. Such employees can meet their growing demand both for basic human necessities and opulent things such as lavish homes, expensive accessories, foreign holidays – to name but a few. This affluent lifestyle, in turn, brings happiness or at least remove many sources of unhappiness. For instance, a study by the University of Sydney in 2021 shed the light on the fact that a hefty remuneration translated to increased happiness. A large income, thus, guarantees the pursuit of happiness.
Another reason why a generous pay scale is considered more crucial than other ingredients of job contentment is that it is regarded as a key indicator for status in most societies. Having a high-paying salary means accumulation of wealth and possessions of wealth is a major characteristic differentiating elite from other class groups in society. Karl Marx’s analysis of class divisions is a case in point. He argued that social class is entirely based on wealth. A fat salary is, therefore, the reason people can shift to a higher class and achieve more success. This is why salary is more critical than contentment at the workplace.
In conclusion, a high pay scale helps employees live happy life and raise their status in society. I, therefore, believe that salary exceeds other job satisfactions in its importance in a worker’s life.
